Travel photos: 7 tips for better travel photos

Travel photos. This is exactly what is going on here and that is why it is time for us to deal with it a bit more.

What is travel photography?

Travel + Photography = Travel photos. It's really so simple. In our time, in which everyone with their mobile phone makes snapshots, everyone is also somehow a travel photo. It used to be a little more difficult. This does not mean that travel photography is less exciting today. On the contrary.

Our next big trip with camera

For over a year we have been writing on 22places about travel photos. So that the topics do not go out, we thought, we have to travel a bit more.
As of the end of September 2015, we will therefore leave Germany for six months or more in the direction of Southeast Asia and work there and of course travel. Of course our camera comes along.
Difficulty: traveling with hand luggage

Half a year travel only with hand luggage? Sounds crazy? I agree. We do it anyway and have been traveling for several months now only with a 40 liter hand luggage backpack through Southeast Asia.

The Osprey Farpoint 40 may still in the cabin and gives us everything we need. For our camera equipment we have two small additional photo bags. If you want to know what we have in our backpacks, then click here: packing list Southeast Asia .

For practical reasons, Jenny has decided to move to a system camera. She has for the Sony Alpha 6000 decided. Basti but could of his  Nikon D7000  not separate. Our complete Photographic Equipment can be found here:  Our photographic equipment when traveling .

We will, of course, keep you up to date on every step so you can learn from our mistakes. But there are now a few things that I would like to get rid of about photographing on journeys and which are close to my heart.

So here are my tips for photographing when traveling for you:

7 IMPORTANT TIPS FOR TRAVEL PHOTOS

# 1 A SLR camera is not always best camera for a trip with backpack

I must admit that the decision to travel with my SLR is not easy. Having a thick chunky camera on the road is not my thing. Simply because it is impractical and I know that I then get faster in the temptation to leave the camera times in the accommodation.

I always have my camera with me. This is, of course, easier with a system camera.

After we've been on the road for some time now, I can tell you that it's a great feeling to be on the road with such a light camera. In terms of image quality, the Bastis Nikon D7000 is in no way inferior.

# 2 Of the attention is rather discouraged

In other countries you often fall as a tourist, whether you like it or not. If you're traveling with expensive photo equipment, it's more suboptimal. You would like to take your equipment back home with you at the end of the trip.

You can change some of the things you notice, others can not. In some countries, I am falling alone because of my blond hair.

Since I want my hair but not darken, I try to adapt otherwise to the customs of the respective country. Why not buy and wear country-specific clothes?

To have an expensive photo bag or a classy, giant backpack is also not the best idea. You do not stand on the street and call: "Confide me!"

So it's worth thinking about putting your photo equipment in a normal shoulder bag or even in a bag. There is also inconspicuous shoulder bags, so such. As our new photo bags of Zkin from the online store of design traps .

As an alternative, which I really think is great, can you simply a camera insert set in which your camera then certainly fits into almost any bag and into other bags.

Almost more practical than a camera used to find a Einwickeltuch because it is more flexible. But also not quite as stable as the camera.

I am very happy that I have the Einwickeltuch here and my camera z. B. also easy in my Penguin Turnbeutel can carry through the area.

# 3 Respect

I sometimes feel that photographers in other countries are confused with zoo animals. Basically, I am an advocate of human and street photography . There are limits, however, which should not be exceeded. The Golden Rule of Street Photography: Respect!

And that's what we should always have in the back of the head when we're on the road with our camera. Regardless of whether we are photographed in front of our doorstep or in another country.

Today, however, it is no longer only about respect, but also about the personality rights of the photographer. On what you need to consider when publishing photos you enjoyed Basti in his article published pictures of people , combined.

So, my request to you is: Always be respectful when taking photographs, especially when people are your motive.

# 4 Something can go wrong

It is best to get used to the idea that you have to go home without a camera. This is indeed the worst-case scenario, but it is not excluded.

There is always something wrong. Sometimes it is only small stupid things, such as a forgotten SD card or an empty battery.

When traveling, your camera equipment, despite all caution, can also be broken or stolen. If you are getting used to the idea now or before your journey, you are not quite so disappointed, sour and sad.

I wish you, of course, that nothing goes wrong. Nevertheless, should the worst case occur, please think simply because it only has a camera.

The main thing is, you're fine. Besides, one should not be angry about things that can not be changed. So, keep the peace and carry on!

And more importantly, to secure photos regularly during a trip. We have two external hard drives, a 2TB hard drive and a 1TB hard drive here and also back them one more time online from. Lies necessarily our article  How you store photos safely on the road .
